Clear glass splashback

Clear Glass Splashbacks

Clear glass is the standard and most cost-effective option for glass splashbacks. At Ready Glaze, we supply clear glass splashbacks with high transparency, allowing the wall colour or finish behind the glass to remain visible. Standard clear glass has a slight green tint at the edge, which is a natural characteristic of float glass.

Where It Works Best:

Clear glass splashbacks are well suited to kitchens and bathrooms where the wall behind has already been painted or finished in the desired colour. The glass acts as a protective, easy-to-clean surface over the existing wall.

Why choose clear glass:

Cost-effective solution for a wide range of projects Allows the existing wall colour or finish to show through Manufactured using toughened safety glass, suitable for heat-prone areas such as behind cooktops Practical option if the wall colour may be updated in the future

Important Note

If the wall behind is white or a light colour, the natural green tint of standard clear glass may slightly affect the final appearance. In these cases, low iron glass is often a better option for a clearer, more neutral finish.

Low iron glass splashback

Low iron

Low iron glass is manufactured with reduced iron content, eliminating the green tint typically seen in standard clear glass. At Ready Glaze, we supply low iron glass splashbacks that provide a colour-neutral, ultra-clear finish, allowing the true colour of the surface or coating behind the glass to show through accurately.

Where it works best

Low iron glass is the preferred option for painted or colour-backed splashbacks, where accurate colour representation is essential. It is also ideal for applications where the wall behind is white, off-white, or light pastel, as standard clear glass may introduce a visible green tint.

Why Choose Low Iron Glass

True colour accuracy with no green tint Ideal for painted or colour-backed splashbacks Provides a cleaner, brighter appearance, especially on light surfaces Manufactured using toughened safety glass, suitable for kitchen and bathroom environments

Important Note

Low iron glass is generally priced higher than standard clear glass; however, the improvement in clarity and colour accuracy makes it the preferred choice for projects where the splashback is a key visual feature.

Tinted or feature glass splashback

Grey Tint

Grey tint glass features a consistent grey tone throughout the panel, offering a modern and understated finish. At Ready Glaze, we supply grey tint glass splashbacks that deliver a contemporary, neutral aesthetic, adding depth and sophistication without the need for bold colours.

Where it works best

Grey tint splashbacks are ideal for modern kitchens and bathrooms with neutral colour palettes. They pair well with grey, white, and charcoal cabinetry, as well as darker stone benchtops, creating a balanced and cohesive look.

Why Choose Grey Tint Glass

Subtle, sophisticated appearance suited to contemporary interiors Adds depth and contrast without overpowering the space Complements neutral and monochrome designs No colour matching required — the tint is inherent within the glass Manufactured using toughened safety glass, suitable for kitchen and wet areas

Common Applications

  • Kitchen splashbacks behind cooktops, sinks, and preparation areas.
  • Bathroom vanity splashbacks behind basins and tapware.
  • Laundry splashbacks for troughs and washing machine areas.
  • Bar and entertainment area splashbacks.
  • Commercial kitchens and hospitality fitouts.
  • Feature wall panels in residential and commercial interiors.
  • Glass splashbacks are often supplied alongside custom cut glass panels and mirrors as part of larger kitchen or bathroom projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on glass type, low-iron options, cutouts and measuring for a clean splashback install.

What type of glass is used for splashbacks?

All Ready Glaze splashbacks use toughened safety glass. Toughening is required for splashback applications as it provides heat resistance (suitable behind gas and electric cooktops) and safety compliance. Standard thickness is 6mm, with 8mm and 10mm available for larger panels.

Do I need low iron glass for a coloured splashback?

Yes. If you are ordering a painted glass splashback or placing clear glass over a white or light-coloured wall, low iron glass is strongly recommended. Standard clear glass has a green tint that will alter the colour you see through the glass. Low iron eliminates this tint and shows the true colour.

Can glass splashbacks go behind a gas cooktop?

Yes. Toughened glass is heat resistant and suitable for installation behind gas cooktops. A minimum clearance between the cooktop burner and the glass surface should be maintained in accordance with the cooktop manufacturer’s specifications typically 200mm or more depending on the model.

How do I measure for a glass splashback?

Measure the width at the top and bottom of the splashback area and the height from the benchtop to the underside of overhead cabinetry. Measure all cutout positions (power points, switches) from the left edge and bottom edge of the panel. Include a sketch with your quote request.

Can you cut holes for power points?

Yes. Power point cutouts, light switch cutouts and tap holes are all specified before toughening and included in your quote. Provide exact positions measured from the panel edges. Cutouts cannot be added after the glass is toughened.
