Versatile, Cost Effective Glass for Any Application

Clear glass is the standard option for most glazing applications. It provides high transparency with a slight green tint visible at the edge, which is characteristic of standard float glass.

Ready Glaze cuts clear glass to your exact dimensions in thicknesses from 3mm to 19mm. Processing options include annealed (standard), toughened (tempered) for safety-rated applications, and laminated for applications requiring hold-together performance on breakage. Edge finishes include raw, flat polished, bevelled and pencil polished.

Clear glass is used in windows, door glazing, splashbacks, tabletops, shelving, display panels, balustrade infills and general glazing. It is the most versatile and widely used glass type for both residential and commercial projects.

Toughened glass must be cut and processed to final dimensions before heat treatment — it cannot be modified after toughening. Specify all holes, cutouts and notches before ordering.

Measurement Guidance

Measure the required width and height. If the glass sits in a frame, measure the rebate depth and width. Specify the application so we can recommend the correct thickness and processing.

Clear glass FAQs

Common questions about our clear glass

What is clear glass?

Standard float glass with high transparency. It has a slight green tint visible at the edge, which is characteristic of the manufacturing process.

Low iron glass reduces the visible green edge tint for more colour-neutral edges.

Why does clear glass have a green tint?

The green tint is caused by iron content in the raw material. It is most visible at the edge and on thicker panels. Low iron glass eliminates this tint.

The edge tint becomes more noticeable as glass thickness increases.

What thicknesses are available?

3mm through 19mm. The correct thickness depends on the application.

Share your opening size and use case so we can recommend a thickness and processing method.

Can it be toughened?

Yes. Toughened clear glass is required for many safety-rated applications. All cutting and processing must be completed before toughening.

Toughened glass cannot be drilled, cut, or notched after heat treatment.

What edge finishes are available?

Raw/arrised, flat polished, bevelled and pencil polished. Choose based on whether the edge will be visible.

Visible edges are typically polished for a clean finish; concealed edges can be left raw where suitable.
